Solar Panels at BHS

With apologies for the late notice, we want to confirm what you may have already observed at the school. Construction has begun on a solar panel array that will cover most of the roof of the school. Over the weekend, materials were craned to the roof and, now, workers have begun the installation process. Workers access the roof via a scissor lift outside, and should not be in the building. This entire project should be completed by the end of the calendar year, and there should be a kiosk in the main lobby that will display how much power is being generated by the solar panels. An exciting Green advancement for the town of Braintree and BHS.

Like Brady, We're Back

It was a tremendous pleasure to walk the halls of BHS today and witness all of our students and teachers diligently at work. The school year has officially begun and we enjoyed a smooth opening which was possible through all the hard work of our teachers, custodians, and maintenance folks. As we finish necessary paperwork and make final tweaks to schedules, we look forward to next week and a true settling into the 2015-2016 school year. A reminder that our Back To School Night is September 24 and we hope to see you all then.

Art Department "Empty Bowls" Fundraiser

Parents, students, faculty! Please join our ceramics students at our EmptyBowls event on April 16th!

Ceramics students from Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham and Hull High Schools have been making bowls to contribute to this fundraiser to end hunger in the South Shore and beyond. For your ticket-price donation, you will choose a handmade bowl, and be served a simple meal of soup and bread, generously donated by Whole Foods Market, at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset. Members of the Hull High School Ensemble Group will provide music. Speakers from Project Bread, Inc., and from Outreach, Inc., an international food charity, will speak about their work and where your contribution will go. There will be a silent auction of additional artworks by local artists and students.

You will take home your handmade bowl as a reminder and a thank you for helping those in need.
Please join us and make this an event that can make a difference in our neighbors’ lives.

Recognition for Braintree's Athletic Director

On March 25th, our own Athletic Director, Mike Denise, will be honored by the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association (MSSADA) with the prestigious President's Award of Merit. This award is given annually to the candidate who has made "significant contributions within the field of athletic administration at the local and state levels." Most Braintree residents are aware of the tremendous successes of our athletic teams both on and off the venues of competition. What perhaps is less understood is the level of effort, commitment, and competence necessary for all of these squads to be in a position to meet with such success. Mr. Denise quietly ensures that all of the logistics and planning that accompany winning programs is present for all of our student-athletes. He also works diligently to retain the high-level of integrity and personal standards in our athletic programs that the town of Braintree deserves and, rightfully, demands. This recognition for Mr. Denise is well-deserved and we pause a moment to congratulate him on this honor.

New Hard Copy BHS News Editions

A New Chapter for the BHS Community
Posted by Mr. Dahlbeck On January 05, 2015 0 Comment
by Brian McDermott and Joseph Walsh
Class of 2016

As President James Madison once said: “the advancement and diffusion of knowledge is the only guard of true liberty.”
This universal concept has, over time, engrained itself into the collective consciousness of Americans, and it has become an ideal which every successful community strives to maintain.

Braintree High School is not just a school, it is a community full of diverse individuals, who by contributing in their respective roles, help to ensure the success of this establishment.

In order for any community to be prosperous there must be a high degree of self-awareness and honest deliberation. The tool which humanity has used for centuries to achieve this ideal is the news media, a vital institution for any community that prides itself on collective integrity.

For many years, Braintree High lacked this institution, that is until September of 2013 when a small, yet devoted group of like-minded individuals created BHS News.

The goal of BHS News is to provide the school with valuable information primarily concerning Braintree High School, but also including the town as a whole.

In addition to informing the school community, BHS News also aims to provide an outlet where students interested in journalism, photography, and business can work together and develop their talents, while at the same time providing the school with a valuable service.

The website BraintreeHighNews.com has been run successfully for over a year, but with this expansion into the world of print journalism, BHS News embarks on a new journey that will inform, entertain, and create discussion amongst the student body.
